September date set for Inquiry into assault charge

Akeeni Hackshaw has been granted bail in the sum of $5,000 after being charged with grievously assaulting a female at Rose Hall.

When he appeared before Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias yesterday at the Serious Offences Court he was charged that on May 28, 2017 he did unlawfully and maliciously cause grievous bodily harm to Novisha Delpesche of Petit Bordel with intent so to do, contrary to section 173 of the Criminal Code, Chapter 171 of the Revised Edition of the Laws of St Vincent and the Grenadines 2009.

Hackshaw was not required to enter a plea as the charge was laid indictably.

The Crown made no objection to bail but instead asked for a sufficiency of surety along with strict bail conditions.

In turn, Hackshaw was granted bail in the sum of $5,000 with one surety and is to report to the Chateaubelair police station every Monday and Thursday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. He was ordered to have no contact with Delpesche and to surrender all travel documents. Stop orders are also to be placed at all ports of exit and entry and Hackshaw would need the expressed permission of the court to leave the state.

He was also placed on a curfew from 7 p.m. to 6 am.

PC 287 Justin Cupid is investigating the matter and a preliminary inquiry is slated for September 18, 2017.
