Man nabbed trying to sneak prohibited items into prison

A 20-year-old Spring Village resident was granted bail in the sum of $7,000 on Tuesday, after an alleged attempt to sneak a number of

prohibited items into the Belle Isle Correctional Facility on April 15.

When Michael Richards appeared before Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias he pleaded not guilty to the three charges of delivering 128 prohibited items, Contrary to Section 47(b) of the Prison Act, Chapter 393 of the Revised Edition of the Laws of St Vincent and the Grenadines 2009.

Richards is charged that on April 15, 2017 at Belle Isle he did attempt to introduce into the Belle Isle Correctional Facility one black Alcatel cellular phone, two cellular phone chargers, two USB cables, three cellular phone batteries, which are prohibited articles.

He is further charged that on that same date and place he did attempt to introduce 13 packs of Pall Mall Cigarettes, five packs of Bambu Papers and 345 grams of high leaf, which are prohibited articles.

Richards was also charged that he did attempt to introduce into the Belle Isle Correctional Facility 129 grams of cannabis, a prohibited article.

An additional charge for possession of the drugs was laid against him.

granted the 20-year-old bail in the sum of EC$7,000 with one surety and he is to return to the Serious Offences Court on April 28, 2017. (AS)
