Police officer slapped with 16 more charges of deception

Police Constable Elron Lewis on Wednesday had a whopping 16 charges added to the three counts of deception he already faces.

Lewis, 26, first appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday, March 9 and was charged with dishonestly acquiring funds from Chantelle Mulkain of England/Clare Valley,{{more}} Curlan Ashton of Campden Park and Victor Simmons of Campden Park, from whom he obtained EC$550, EC$250 and EC$600 respectively, between December 11, 2015 and January 11, 2016.

When the Troumaca resident re-appeared before Serious Offences Court last Wednesday, he was charged with by deception, dishonestly obtaining a total of EC$4,170 from five different people, between March 1, 2013 and November 23, 2015.

According to the court, on February 7, 2016, and between November 1 and 30, 2013, the police officer, by deception dishonestly obtained $300, $75 and $750 on three occasions, from Clint Todd Lewis of Bequia, with intention of permanently depriving him of the money.

It was also revealed that between August 1 and 31, 2015, between October 1 and 31, 2015 and on November 10, 2015, at Kingstown, Lewis, by deception dishonestly obtained $400, $300, $65 and $60 from Okel Mars of Coulls Hill on four different occasions with the intention of permanently depriving him of the money.

The charges further revealed that between May 1 and 31, 2014, on two separate occasions at Kingstown, the police officer, by deception dishonestly obtained $300 and $500 from Junie Franklyn of Questelles, intending to permanently deprive her of the money.

Additionally, Lewis, by means of dishonesty acquired $100 each day on April 5, 2013, April 12, 2013, April 19, 2013, April 26, 2013, before further acquiring $60 and $360 between March 1 and 31, 2013 (on two separate occasions) at Kingstown from Wendell Browne of Glen, with the intention of permanently depriving Browne of the money.

Lewis is also charged that on November 23, 2015 at Kingstown he, by means of deception dishonestly obtained $600 EC in cash from Omora Gaymes of Barrouallie, with the intention of permanently depriving her of the money.

These 19 charges are contrary to section 233(1) of the Criminal Code, Chapter 171 of the Revised edition of the laws of St Vincent and the Grenadines 2009.

SEARCHLIGHT is advised more charges are to be laid against the police officer who, according to police, is currently on suspension.

Lewis was further remanded in custody until March 23, 2016. (AS)
