Bequia duo remanded on drug, gun charges

Two Bequia residents yesterday pleaded not guilty to gun, ammunition and drug charges at the Serious Offences Court.

Dexter Stowe and McArthur Leache were both charged that on Saturday, January 30, at Port Elizabeth, Bequia, they had in their possession five rounds of .380 ammunition without a licence under the Firearms Act.{{more}}

They were also charged with having in their possession one .380 Taurus semi-automatic pistol, serial number KSG89567, without a licence under the Firearms Act and also that they had in their possession 35 grams of cocaine, with intent to supply to another.

Stowe was charged separately that on that same date and place he had in his possession 13 grams of cocaine.

Senior prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche made no objection to bail, but requested reporting conditions.

Taking this into consideration, chief magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias set a composite bail in the sum of $20,000, with one surety and ordered that they report to the Port Elizabeth Police Station on Fridays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The firearm and ammunition case will be heard on February 8, while the narcotics case will be heard on June 29.
