David acquitted of murder charge for second time
For the second time in two years, Collin âCocoaâ David has been cleared of a charge of murder.
The most recent instance came on Thursday, October 22, at the High Courtâs Criminal Assizes, when Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Colin Williams, made the decision to discontinue prosecution of the Long Wall resident.{{more}}
David was charged on June 24, 2013 for the murder of Jahjust Devon Steele, who was gunned down in Rose Place on May 5, 2013.
Steele sustained gunshot wounds to the back of his head and chest.
When contacted on Wednesday, the DPP offered no explanation for discontinuing the matter against David, adding that a release on the matter will be issued at a later date.
Jomorni Tash, a resident of Rockies, was also charged in connection with Steeleâs death. However, Tash, 22, was acquitted of the murder at the Serious Offences Court, on March 20, 2014. Just before the prosecution brought its case to a close, senior prosecutor in the Office of the DPP Adolphus Delpesche informed the court that he was not offering any further evidence against Tash, and as a result, withdrew the case against him.
In November 2012, DPP Colin Williams discontinued a trial in which David was charged with the murder of fruit vendor Ashley âSeymourâ Warren.
However, while David can breathe a little easier now that he no longer faces a murder charge, his legal woes are far from over.
In July 2015, he was committed to stand trial at the High Court for the attempted murder of a police officer and robbing an employee of the postal corporation.
David is charged with the attempted murder of Police Constable 843 Julanie Jack and for being armed with a gun, robbing Cleopatra Wilson, a postal corporation worker of EC$102,000, on June 13, 2013.(KW)
