Jacobs jailed for four months for stealing cognac

A Lowman’s Hill resident will spend the next four months in jail after pleading guilty to stealing a bottle of Hennessy Cognac.

Magistrate Carla James handed down the sentence yesterday, August 31, at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court, when 27-year-old Dwayne Jacobs appeared before her.{{more}}

The court heard that on August 28, Jacobs and another man entered Gonsalves Liquors empty-handed and began walking around.

An employee at the establishment kept the duo under observation, and after some time, Jacobs was seen walking out with a bag in his hand.

He was stopped, a search was conducted on the bag, and the bottle of Hennessy, which is valued at $215, was discovered.

Jacobs was subsequently arrested and charged.

He, however, told the court that he was just an accomplice to the crime, and that was why he pleaded guilty. (KW)
