Man tries to sell stolen milk to police, jailed for six months
A 20-year-old man of Kingstown was sentenced to six months in prison on July 24, after he was caught red-handed trying to sell stolen milk to the police.{{more}}
According to the facts heard in court, sometime between July 16 and 21, Alex Alexander broke into the HIV/AIDS Unit at Old Montrose and stole three cases of Lactogen baby milk.
When he appeared in court on July 27, the young man pleaded guilty to breaking into the building and stealing the milk, but told chief magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias that technically, he did not break in.
âThe window was wide open, so I ainât really break in,â he told the court.
The chief magistrate was not impressed with his excuse and explained that his crime was serious as the milk was to be used to feed children of women who are HIV positive or suffering from AIDS who cannot breast feed.
According to the police, Alexander was apprehended at the Central Police Station in Kingstown, where he turned up to try to sell the milk for $10 a can.
He was then charged with burglary, after confessing to the offence.(AS)
