Redemption Sharpes resident fined $500 for ammo possession

Redemption Sharpes resident Michael Nichols avoided a jail sentence yesterday, after pleading guilty to possession of one round of ammunition.{{more}}

Nichols, 22, appeared at the Serious Offences Court on March 9 and was fined $500 forthwith for possession of one round of 12 gauge ammunition.

The fine was paid.

Failure to pay the fine would have resulted in a six-month custodial sentence.

According to the facts, on Sunday, March 8, while members of the Special Services Unit (SSU) were patrolling the Redemption Sharpes area, Nichols was met sitting in a pavilion at the playing field.

When he was searched, the police found one round of ammunition in his right, front pants pocket.

When cautioned, he told police officers that he found the ammunition in the road.

In court, the young man explained to Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias that he should have thrown away the bullet when he was advised to do so by someone else.(KW)
