Barrouallie man awaits penalty after being convicted of attempted murder
Barrouallie resident Brenon Roberts will have to wait a little while longer to learn the penalty he will have to pay for attempting to murder his former common-law wife.{{more}}
Roberts, who was on December 16, 2014 convicted of the attempted murder of Prislet Francis, was scheduled for sentencing on Wednesday this week, at the High Court.
However, his lawyer Grant Connell indicated that he would like to call a character witness on his clientâs behalf, but noted that that person was out of the country and requested an adjournment.
Justice Kathy-Ann Latchoo, who presided over the matter, allowed the request and the matter was adjourned to February 16, 2015.
Roberts is the first person to be convicted in a jury trial utilizing the video technology permitted by the Interviewing of Suspects for Serious Crimes Act, (No: 4 of 2012).
Roberts, 41, was also found guilty of breach of a Court Order. The charges arose from an incident on April 22, 2013, when Francis, with whom he has a child, was attacked at Larley Road in Barrouallie at around 9 p.m. and chopped several times on her head, arm and back.
The woman had earlier obtained a Protection Order from the Family Court against Roberts, who had previously wounded her.
