‘Jumbie’ let go

When or if the prosecution get their house in order, Steve “Jumbie” Browne would be once again charged with murder.

But for now, the Sandy Bay resident is enjoying his freedom.{{more}}

At the Serious Offences Court yesterday, Browne, who spent nine years on the run from police before being arrested in October 2014, was discharged by the court yesterday.

He had been charged with the 2005 murder of Javern “Stitchie”Nero, 26, also of Sandy Bay.

The decision to discharge Browne was made by Chief Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias, after the prosecution, led by senior prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche informed the court that they were not ready to proceed, after they had been granted a final adjournment on the last occasion the case came up for hearing.

The magistrate then told the 34-year-old man that he was discharged.

On August 5, 2005, the deceased sustained two bullet wounds to his right leg and one to the right side of his head, while socializing with friends at Big Sand Beach, Sandy Bay.

He died on his way to the Georgetown Hospital.

A week following the incident, a wanted poster was issued for Browne’s arrest.

Browne had been residing in Martinique and was deported in October 2014, after serving time in jail there.(KW)
