New Registrar of the High Court appointed

The High Court has welcomed a new registrar — Andrea Young-Lewis — former registrar of the Commerce and Intellectual Property Office (CIPO).{{more}}

Young-Lewis was appointed to the position, effective November 1, 2014, replacing Tamara Gibson-Marks who resigned in May 2014, amidst allegations of theft and abuse of authority.

From 2001 to 2003, Young-Lewis held the positions of government senator and Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly during the Unity Labour Party’s (ULP) first term of office.

When she was appointed in 2001, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves referred to her as the “youngest Deputy Speaker in the Commonwealth Caribbean.”

She was at the time one of five women on the government side of the House of Parliament. The others included Senator Juliette George (who assumed the position of Deputy Speaker when Young-Lewis resigned), Attorney General Judith Jones-Morgan, and parliamentary representatives René Baptiste and Girlyn Miguel.

SEARCHLIGHT contacted Young-Lewis on Wednesday, November 5; however, she declined to comment on her new appointment.(JSV)
