For his breach of the law, magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias sentenced the Questelles man to six months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the charge yesterday at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court.

However, that sentence was suspended for six months, meaning that Lawrence will only see jail time if he is convicted of another offence within the next six months.

According to the facts read out in court, on June 14, at about 11 a.m., Lawrence entered G and T Supermarket at Sion Hill, looked around and exited.

He returned about five minutes later with a black plastic bag wrapped up in his hand.

He proceeded to the back of the supermarket, placed the items in the bag and attempted to walk past the cashier, but was held by the store’s owner.

Lawrence was informed of the observation and the items in the bag were retrieved.

When he was arrested, Lawrence told police: “Officer, me gi’ me girlfriend all me money.”(KW)
