Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias should have delivered a ruling in the case on Monday, but adjourned the matter after Hooperâs lawyer Jomo Thomas wrote a letter to the court requesting to have the matter heard at a later date.
Thomas noted in the letter that he was out of state and that he would like to be present for the magistrateâs ruling.
Hooper, 22, of Campden Park, is charged with possession of 1,235 grams of cocaine, conspiracy to export, and drug trafficking, between July 1 and 24, 2013, at the E.T. Joshua Airport.
Her former co-accused, Nathan Smith of Kent, England, who had earlier pleaded guilty to similar charges and received a two-year prison sentence, told the court that it was Hooper who had brought him a can each of Presidente beer, Vitamalt, and Hairoun beer, which police later discovered were filled with cocaine, following a search of Smithâs luggage at the E.T. Joshua Airport on July 24, 2013.
Senior prosecutor in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Adolphus Delpeche led the case for the prosecution.
