Man uses stolen money to buy clothes
Alex Alexander told Magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias that he stole $300 so that he could repay a man, but instead, he paid the man some of the money owed to him and bought clothes with the remainder.{{more}}
As a result, Alexander was ordered to compensate Rohan DeRoche forthwith for stealing his $300 and was placed on a nine-month suspended sentence.
He pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared at the Kingstown Magistrateâs Court yesterday.
According to the facts, DeRoche, who shares a two-bedroom apartment with Josean Pompey at Largo Heights, placed the money on a table in the living room and went away at about 10:30 a.m. on April 4.
Around that time, Alexander was doing work around the yard and went to the apartment to ask Pompey for something to drink.
She gave him something to drink and food to eat. Shortly after, Pompey is said to have gone to the bathroom, leaving the main door of the apartment open.
When DeRoche returned later that day, he discovered the money was missing.
The matter was reported and police investigations led to Alexander, who was met wearing a brand new pair of jeans, sneakers, cap and a pair of socks, which he later admitted that he bought with the money he stole.
The items of clothing were all confiscated.
It is not clear if Alexander paid the compensation.
