Men in Arnos Vale melee face theft, possession of illegal firearm charges

Ottley Hall residents Enrico Johnny and Mosiah Westfield, two of the men involved in the melee which caused a temporary closure of the Arnos Vale Kentucky Fried last Tuesday, have been charged with crimes relating to that incident.{{more}}

A police statement on Thursday said Westfield, 19, and Johnny, 20, were charged jointly with the theft of one gold chain, valued $500, stolen at Fountain on November 27, from shopkeeper Veronica Miller of Fountain.

The men were also charged with having in their possession one 9mm pistol without a firearms license.

Johnny was further charged with using the weapon to prevent the lawful apprehension of himself and Westfield.

SEARCHLIGHT understands that the men were granted bail of $25,000 each, during their appearance at the Serious Offences Court in Kingstown on Thursday.

Johnny and Westfield snatched the piece of jewellery from Miller, 56, and were then chased by a group of men who were nearby.

The chased ended when Westfield and Johnny were cornered at the KFC and beaten by the men chasing them, before being handed over to police.

The men are scheduled to return to court on April 22, 2013. (JJ)
