The labourer appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday, June 27 and pleaded guilty to possession of 5,512 (12 pounds) grams of cannabis on June 24, at Union Island.

Roberts was ordered to pay $2000 forthwith. Failure to pay the entire fine will result in a two-year prison sentence.

The court heard that Roberts had just disembarked the Jaden Sun ferry in Union Island when police officers there noticed him acting in a suspicious manner. A search was requested and the drug was found in a taped package in a knapsack he was carrying.

Roberts told police officers that he was only dropping off the drug for someone.(KW)
