2011 Criminal assizes closes today

The 2011 criminal assizes is expected to come to a close today, one day behind schedule.{{more}}

An unforeseen delay pushed the close of the High Court proceedings from the scheduled Monday, December 19 date, to today, Tuesday, December 20, with a number of sentencings likely to take place.

Among those likely to be sentenced are Azari Ash and Che Bute, who were found guilty by a 12-member jury of the murder of Lloyd ‘Lazo’ Samuel on December 2007 in Redemption Sharpes.

Ash and Bute’s case were among 77 cases, including 33 murder cases, that were down to be heard, when the assizes began on October 4, 2011.

A prison report is also expected to be given by Superintendent of Prisons Linus Goodluck.

The assizes will resume next year after the Christmas Holidays.
