You are going to pay for wasting the Court’s time – says Judge

Resident High Court Judge Frederick Bruce-Lyle is baffled as to what is going on with young men in St Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}

The outspoken judge was at the time addressing Edward Taylor, shortly after he was convicted and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for attempted murder and firearm offences on November 9.

“What is wrong with the young men in this society? It is not the women, it is the stupid young men like you. Using firearms to commit an offence is serious business and you come here and say you found it in a gutter…,” Bruce-Lyle stated.

On January 28, 2011, Taylor at about 6:45 p.m, went up to the car window of Cleophus Lyttle and shot him on his hands in the vicinity of Coreas Mini Mart in Kingstown.

“The evidence against you was so overwhelming. I am not even going to ask you why you shot the virtual complainant because you are just going to tell me you did not shoot him. You are going to pay for wasting the court’s time…,” Bruce-Lyle added.

The judge said if Taylor had pleaded guilty, the prosecution would have removed some of the counts laid against him.

“Attempted murder carries life in jail. All that you have going for you is your age and the fact that you were gainfully employed at the time of the incident,” the judge said.(KW)
