Prisoner warned to control bowels

Persons at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court were on high alert on Tuesday morning, when the man who had escaped custody last week, leaving the court in a mess, was brought back to court by police.{{more}}

Denver Oliver, who had covered himself in faeces prior to escaping, was brought into the courtroom in handcuffs, escorted by two police officers who wore latex gloves and were armed with batons.

As soon as Oliver stepped into prisoner’s dock, Senior Magistrate Donald Browne gave him a sound tongue lashing for what he had done.

“Don’t try to behave the way you behaved a few days ago and defecate all over the place…and what makes it so sickening is that you did it in your hand and paste up the whole place. If you defecate in here again, I’ll make certain orders. You loose your belly and you go see what happen…,” Browne said sternly, as Oliver wept openly.

Last week, prior to his escape bid, Oliver was sentenced to a six month jail term for theft.

This week, he was slapped with two additional charges.

The 36-year-old Calliaqua resident pleaded guilty to having four rocks of cocaine in his possession and escaping lawful custody.

For the cocaine, Senior Magistrate Donald Browne fined Oliver $150 forthwith or failing to pay, he will spend six months in jail. For escaping custody, he was sentenced to 18 months in jail.

At about 5:50 a.m., on Tuesday, August 23, police nabbed Oliver hiding in the Building and Loan area at White Chapel in Kingstown.

When he appeared in court on August 15, Oliver had pleaded with Magistrate Browne not to send him to prison because when he goes there, he says he is scorned.

In explaning his outlandish behaviour to the court, Oliver again told the senior magistrate that he is scorned when taken to prison. ‘I ain’t been mean fo disrespect yo. I ain’t go do yo dem thing dey man; I ain’t been war go jail man; I ain’t war go jail; ah sorry,” Oliver explained.

As soon as his matters were completed, police officers did not waste anytime in escorting him from the courtroom.(KW)
