Labourer fined for ganja

Obsborne Yearwood, a labourer of Calder, was handed a $50 fine for two bombs of cannabis, $25 for damage to property and a two-year bond or $1000 and six months in jail for assault after he appeared last Wednesday at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Chief Magistrate, Simone Churaman. {{more}}

Reports state that on June 15, at 6:30 p.m. Yearwood went home to Calder where his parents reside and started banging a plastic chair on the concrete causing it to be destroyed. He also assaulted Cameron Yearwood, a relative.

The police were immediately called in on the matter.

The defendant told the court he begged for leniency from his parents, who forgave him for destroying the chair.

The court was also told that the defendant had a history of being frequently intoxicated.

He was apprehended on September 12, by police officers, who identified themselves and conducted a search on Yearwood. During the search, they found the two bombs of cannabis.

Yearwood had a previous conviction for an offensive weapon in 2000. He was given until September 30 to compensate his parents for the chair and pay for having the cannabis in his possession.
