A Searchlight Commemorative Article: Dr Friday is new Prime Minister of SVG

THE PEOPLE SPOKE emphatically on November 27, 2025 in general elections in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), propelling the New Democratic Party (NDP) into the position of governance with a 14-1 victory after almost 25 years in opposition.

The sweeping victory catapulted Dr. Godwin Friday, leader of the NDP, to head government as prime minister. He was sworn into office on November 28, while his Cabinet was sworn in at a ceremony at the Arnos Vale Playing Field on December 2, 2025. Dr. Ralph Gonsalves switched chairs to be Leader of the Opposition, and named Carlos James and Keisal Peters as Opposition Senators
