Gary Peters’ Vincy Life Series in print
by Maralyn Ballantyne
VINCY LIFE SERIES by Gary Peters, published by Hobo Jungle, July 2026, is a unique book. It is Gary’s first book and he has lovingly dedicated it to his children, Jade and Jahz, asking them to aim to be more than their physical selves.
Every Vincentian should purchase this well laid out book of prose, paintings and sketches.
I have read the entire book. The writing style is not only accessible, but also beautiful and captivating.
Congratulations to all of the contributors to this outstanding book.
Bevan Lewis, one of Gary’s long-time friends wrote the inspiring foreword. In it, he said, ‘’I can easily imagine someone pointing to the paintings and telling stories to their children, grandchildren, friends. The paintings act as a starting point to describe a Vincentian way of life that may not be as visible today.”
Gary’s art promotes conversations, leading to a sense of nostalgia and refl ection across generations, luring one to appreciate the historical and ancestral origins of the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In that context, VINCY LIFE SERIES is a perfect book choice for Vincentians in the Diaspora.
Visitors to our shores should take home books by native Vincentian authors, and several there are, all available at various bookshops in Kingstown and also on Amazon. I highly recommend VINCY LIFE SERIES by Gary Peters. It is a souvenir of Vincentian art and a record of Vincentian life from a Vincentian perspective. Former ambassador, Rhonda King says that Gary’s work does not dictate meaning. It invites meaning.
It does so by offering newcomers to VINCY LIFE, the perfect companion in their quest to get to know VINCIES.
