Celebrate in the abundance of peace!

CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
from Ivan O’Neal,
Leader of SVG Green Party.

WE CAN ALL CELEBRATE this Christmas in the abundance of peace.

The dark, ominous cloud hanging over SVG has been lifted by the grace of God, and a 56% NO CONFIDENCE vote on November 25, 2009, in the SVG referendum on the new constitution.{{more}}

Many Vincentians were concerned that our beloved country was heading towards dictatorship and communism. The Bible tells us in Psalm 37:11 ‘But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace’. The fruits of dictatorship and communism are oppression, poverty, pain and suffering. We can all celebrate this Christmas in the abundance of peace.

We can accurately forecast that there will be a change of government in SVG in 2010. Our focus must be to adapt to climate change and create a Green economy, as this will provide our nation with new jobs and revenue. Adapting to climate change will also put money back in to the pockets of the people and make it easier for poor families to put food on the table.

Our best resource is our people. The only way we will ever be able to solve our own problems as a nation and properly move forward is by increasing the skill level and education of all of our people, not just the rich. Naturally, then, we must build our own university and make it free to all Vincentians. It is only countries with a high percentage of university-educated people that really prosper. Only with a Green economy and our own university will we be able to guarantee prosperity for all.

The PM’s measure of success is ‘we are better than Haiti and Bangladesh’. One can only feel sorry for a person who sets their sights so low. Crime and poverty have overtaken our beloved country under the ULP reign. However, on November 25, 2009, the people spoke, saying NO. The people said no, no more – enough is enough!

Everyone, except the PM, has set their sights high, because they know they have a right to live in a prosperous, safe and peaceful environment. The people know that it is their God-given right to have prosperity, it is their children’s right to have a world-class education and it is the right of every child that is born unto to our nation to be safely delivered into an SVG of freedom and democracy.

I see a very bright and prosperous future for our beloved country, in a science-driven Green economy. With this, SVG will become a leader in the region, to the benefit of our rich Caribbean civilisation.

Let us show love with warm affection to each other. Merry Christmas and a positive, new direction of success for the New Year.
