8-month-old baby dies of COVID-19 in SVG

St Vincent and the Grenadines has recorded its first COVID-19 death in a child.

The Ministry of Health Wellness and the Environment said in its July 2 update that two persons; an eight-month-old baby boy and a 55-year-old female died of COVID-19 pneumonia during the reporting period.

The baby tested positive for COVID-19 on June 24, 2022 and was admitted to the Isolation Ward at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital. He died on June 30, 2022 of COVID-19 pneumonia. 

The report said the 55-year-old woman, who had  underlying conditions tested positive for COVID-19 on June 27, 2022 and was admitted to the Isolation Ward at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital. She died on July 2, 2022 of COVID-19 pneumonia. She was unvaccinated. 

Their deaths bring the death toll from COVID-19 in St Vincent and the Grenadines to 114.

There are now 49 active cases of COVID-19 in St Vincent and the Grenadines. Five of these cases are hospitalized.
