Cases against butcher and farmer struck out

The butcher who was charged with receiving stolen goats walked of the Biabou Magistrate’s Court a free man today.

Terry Gibson, 58 of Dauphine appeared before Magistrate Bertie Pompey on March 9, charged with dishonestly receiving stolen items, to wit, two ewe goats valued at $520, from Carl Young, a 68-year-old farmer of Cedars, on February 4.

When the matter was called, Gibson told the court that he was being represented by lawyer Grant Connell, who was not yet in court. The matter was therefore stood down to be recalled later that day.

Carl Young, who was charged with the theft of the animals between February 2 and 3, appeared before the magistrate soon after Gibson.

On February 20, when he first appeared in court, Young had pleaded guilty to the offence, but when he re-appeared before Senior Magistrate Rickie Burnett for sentencing on February 27, he changed his plea to not guilty.

While Young stood in the dock, Pompey asked Gibson to join the farmer in the defendant’s dock.

Fate stepped in and virtual complainant, 51-year-old Clasp Glasgow of Cedars indicated that she would not proceed any further with the matter.

The cases against both defendants were struck out as a result.

Young and Gibson had previously appeared before Burnett at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court who transferred the matters to Biabou.(GHJ)
