Thanks, but no thanks, Ghana

Thanks, but no thanks, Ghana

The Government of Ghana invited Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, Senior Advisor for The Repair Campaign and former Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, to serve on the newly formed Global Advisory Council on Reparatory Justice in July, 2026.

Congratulations to de organisors of dis year’s Nah-shun-all E-man-say-patience day and by entend-shun de month of activities (August), in SVG. ley we -nah- forget dat dis concept of ah food and cultural day is ah NDP West Kingstown In-niche-ah-teef, Deys dis very interesting ole ‘tory dat Grampa Nathan said he read from de Archives of Wilb Smith II Family Library. Wilb Smith II was ah proud Slave master/Estate owner who was equally proud of his name. His two sons were named Wilb Smith III and Wilb Smith IV. He inherited ah family Estate dat yielded good profits. Living hell broke lose early one morning, when ah blue-eye, brown-skin baby-girl was born on de estate. Her mother “Mama” was ah Black house-slave and de baby was ah Mulatto wid ah straight nose and curly hair. No mistake, she was named Wila Smith. Of course dat could only have meant one thing??.

Massah Wilb Smith II sensed de abolishun of slavery coming around de corner and his glory days were coming to an end. Painfully, he released Wila Smith and Mama, her house-slave mother from de bondage of slavery. Massah Will-B instructed Mama to mek sure all ah Wila Smith’s children carried de Smith family name. Boys will be Will-B Smith and Girls Wila Smith, “And whatever happens in de future,” he said to Mama, ah special piece of de estate will be left foh all ah she generation.

Den Massah Will-B 11 immediately started reconstruction of de near 200 year ole Plantation House or Great House. He did his research and used only de toughest and de best available lumber like African Teak and European Oak. At de main entrance to de property he built one of de finest and most durable timber gates in de entire Province. And at de top of de gate was ah huge sign wid big and bold capital letters dat read “WILL-B SMITH FAMILY ESTATE.

Is only when ah asked Grampa Nathan way he going wid his story, He told me: “ hold on ah getting close to de end!”. How one hot Summer afternoon ah new Chevrolt Special Deluxe parked at de original old “Will Smith’s Gate”. On enquiring de young Wil-B Smith V discovered dat de occupants of de vehicle were ah team of Science Research Professors, who had identified on de map dat de area contained ah massive deposit of Uranium-dat is naturally radioactive and found in small amounts in rocks, soil, and water. It is most famous for providing the fuel used in nuclear power plants to generate electricity. De leader of de team was ah senior Professor who den gave her name and ethnic back-ground; was ah hell’t mixed sorry, ah multi Race: “White. African, East Indian.” Introduced herself as Professor Wila Smith Jr, named after her great-grand mother Wila Smith ah descendant of ah slave.

“Say no more!” said de young Will-B Smith V. “Welcome Home dear cousin Wila! It’s about time one of yuh to whom dis property rightly belongs, shows up. It was your ’E-man-say-patience gift returned to you from your father, our father. Dat is reparation!

And wid dat is gone ah gone again

One Love Bassy
