Dig Ah Better Life
SIMEON GREENE, a former Manager of the Banana Growers Association and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture
Bassy - Love Vine
June 5, 2026

Dig Ah Better Life

Ah want to big up Come-rid See-me-on-Green for de one-dah-full example of leadership he has assumed lately in de field of Agriculture in SVG. See-me-on is farmer by no other choice. Very humble wid ah University Degree, he he was once PS Agriculture and so on, But ley me give him his well deserved title: “Mr Green finger by name and Nature” Ah couple weeks ago ah saw ah photo on his “face-book page” displaying “Green Bananas” in ah boxing (plant) stay-sun, waiting on de transport ready to be exported. Doh talk bout de many inspiring comments and flattering names his “Face-Book” friends posted. Dat Green Banana picture was/is like de I-sing on de cake, ah follow up to another photo posted again by See-me-on three months ago, only that time it was ah shipment of “Lovely Two-mah-toes. It means See-me-on is no seasonal farmer, he is ah seasoned, all year multi-cropping Farmer. So ah went and did de Maths and conclude dat when all else was fighting-up wid Elect-shun Calm-Pain, begging voters to “lift me up,” not to men-shun de aftermath of “ What ah Wallah” (14-1) November 27 de-feet or Victry, See-me-on remained de consummate farmer who holds his produce, his customers and his country at heart.

And way ah going wid dis long story? Elect-shuns over six months ago. Everybody went out and kicked de ULP Go-venom-mint out. Yuh would think elect-shun over, is now time dat people settle down and start re-build de country. Some ah us want to change all de Police and Public Service H.O.D. as well. Now ask some ah these “ who only know how to pull down Go-venom-mint people,” what have we done other dan criticize since getting ah 14-1 victory. Trouble is, de losers not settling down and tek de licks either. So in de mean time, sorry, foh over ten years, dis country has been widout sit-rust e.g. lime, oranges, grapefruits. Three imported limes cost E.C.$ 10 00.

I am very passionate about way going on in SVG. Some ah we got lands turning forest. It will take lickle or no effort to tek ah cutlass and dig ah few holes and plant ah grain of corn, 2 cucumber seeds or string beans, and see what will happen in 2-4 months. Sir James had ah farmers slogan: “Dig ah better life!” And Grampa Nathan say to tell Doc Fry-dey, he doing ah good Job! And wid dat is gone ah gone again.

One Love Bassy
