Bassy - Love Vine
May 15, 2026

Thank You Sister Myrna

AH WANT TO IDENTIFY wid de many sincere tributes on GECCU Ltd Facebook post, and elsewhere, on behalf of our dearly, departed Sister, Myrna Bramble who left us ah week ago.

One ah de messages dat captured my attend- shun reads: “In Loving Memory – Sis. Myrna P. Bramble.

The Credit Union always welcomed you with open arms; people were concerned about each other and treated each other with respect, non-discrimination and most of all love.” After family ah think ah could safely say Sis Myrna’s second love was GECCU.

She obtained her formal eddy-care-shun at Kingstown Anglican Primary School, under de excellent tutelage of GCH Thomas and “Teacher P” Peters.

She got herself a job wid Go-venommint Service as ah “ Messenger now dressed-up and renamed “Office Attendant,” de “humblest among de humble!” ah title dat represents “the highest degree of meekness or selfeffacement”. Unknowingly our newest Messenger had embarked on ah job where she was about to spend the next thirty-three years, wid no promotion in sight, only lateral movements (transfers). Worse still an Office Attendant’s salary 60 years ago was about $ 30.00 ah month. But she needed ah Job!

Somewhere along life’s journey Sis Myrna gravitated towards GECCU, de Credit Union arm of de Public Service dat was struggling to recruit members from within de Service. Sis Bramble served on several Sub-committees, and was very actively involved in membership drives recruiting peers and co-worker. I recall being at GECCU’s General Office during ah lunch hour, when our dear sister invited me to join de members in a lunch session. Ah was looking forward to ah sumptuous lunch only to be informed dat it was actually one of de Credit Union’s regular Prayer Meeting. De Conference room was packed wid Office Attendants and GECCU Staff.

Myrna led de prayer session, but it was ah day of Fasting and Prayers. So no food!

Now Sis Myrna was never satisfied wid her primary school eddy-care-shun and silently pledged dat where she didn’t reach, her children must soar. Incidentally she had become ah single parent wid five siblings. Every children went to Secondary School: two of dem attended Grammar school, one each at Bethel, Bishop’ and Bequia Anglican. Sister Myrna like she came out wid ah bone in she throat. Two sons went University obtained four Degrees- two Bachelors, two Masters. Her son Fitz and I have agreed on an LLB for Myrna P Bramble Award: “Lots of Love from Bramble”Today she is in Heaven, may de Lord bless her soul. And wid dat is gone ah gone again, One Love Bassy.

P.S. Lie-Za wants to be mischievous. She say sixty years ago de Office Attendant in de Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Consumer Affairs would ah bin Sis Myrna Bramble, today de present Minister is de son of Myrna Bramble de same Office Attendant. No wonder dey meking noise say he has Do-all citizenship.
