If Yuh Happy and yuh know it, Say Amen!
Bassy - Love Vine
August 14, 2025

If Yuh Happy and yuh know it, Say Amen!

Three-in-ah-row! Ah complete white wash! Doh even remind us way happen ah week after in de 5-T20 matches Australia vs West Indies, (July 20th to 28th) when de too-too hit de Cricket Fans. Was ah whiter wash, Australia won all five matches.

But over the last two weeks, Pakistan and West Indies were embroiled in two, three-match- Series: ah T20I and an ODI. Pakistan won de T20I series (2-1). But alas! in de ODI, de second Series played last week (August 8th –12th) West Indies won two matches to one (2-1). ESPN headlines put it best: “ (Shai) Hope and (Jaden) Seales decimate Pakistan to end West Indies’ 34-year drought!.” Dat victory sent Lie-Za singing her way to church: “ If you happy and you know it, stamp yuh feet!”

But dat is cricket! lovely cricket! Not only when West Indies win though, all de time. Ah might be “off key” but ah firmly believe dat cricket to de West Indies is like ah sabbath to de Jews. Whether yuh participate/play, watch or listen to cricket, just tell we-self it is intended to help us spirit-u-ally, and not to divide us pull-it-tek- ally or otherwise.

Seriously though, how much love do we put into our West Indies Cricket other dan going to watch a game? Or do we simply play Dr Polly-tricks, especially when de port-oops, de wall keep tumbling down. Win or lose, Rally Round de West Indies, dey’ll be back, but not wid-out de blues. Heaven knows we need to be in de Top Three, again!

Is All About Big Bucks?

Now ah not apologizing foh our cricketers, ah just trying to see what might be one lickle challenge facing West Indies cricketers, in fact every nah-shun-all cricketer now-ah-days. Cricket is Big Bucks. Cricket got different format! Deys Test Cricket (4-5 days) de longest version! Deys ODI (one day, 50 overs ah side)! Dey’s T20 (one or two matches ah day)! Deys 100 balls ah side!

And den is de different leagues so much so is ah whole load ah infestors wid fancy titles like Fraanchse. Lie-Za calls dem Frank-choice forming leagues. Dey’s de Indian Premier League (IPL), de Pakistan Super League (PSL), de Big Bash League (BBL). Even our Caribbean Premier League (CPL) starting dis weekend.

Now de bottom line is winning matches. Who hits de most boundaries! gets de most wickets!takes de most catches. So dat when ah cricketer on de field, he is being watched by ah Frank-choice selector, looking foh ah player who will attract spectators dat will pay Big Bucks to see de game. And dat is one, ah repeat, one ah West Indies problem.

Lie-Za say next E-man-say-pay-shun Cricket Fete-see-val, we having ah “No Balls ah side League” de SVG CPL (Come-Red Party League). And wid dat is gone ah gone again.

One Love Bassy
