Is Beach Training Ah Way To Go?
Bassy - Love Vine
April 5, 2024

Is Beach Training Ah Way To Go?

First and foremost ah want to Big-Up our Vin-See athletes foh ah good performance at de Carifta 51 Games dat was held on de Easter weekend at de K-Ran-y-James Stay-deum in Grin-Aid-her. Lie-Za loves everything about dat name K-Ran-y-James-Stay-deum. Firstly, she says de I-dare is rewarding foh ah soldier still active on de

battle field; and de “deum” as in stay-deum is spiritual. We must find ways of honouring our young people when dey excel. Instil Nah-shun-all pride and hope in our aspiring sports-personalities. Not like how we in SVG couldn’t wait to finish de stay-dum at Die-Man before we hurry-hurry gone and name de facility after ah personality dat has no relevance or significance wid sports. Dat gentleman would ah preferred his name called wid ah highway, industrial estate, an Ottley Hall Marina or even de AIA. But as ULP all time say, dat name foh de stay-dum is an hysterical wrong to be corrected.

Carifta 51 is over and SVG did not win ah single medal, neither gold, silver nor bronze at Carifta 51. Ah very humbling sit-yuh-here-shun, wid twenty-one member states competing, 206 medals were up fee de taking and SVG not only ended-up medal-less, but at de cellar position.

However despite de frustrating statistics, Lie-Za’s ex-boyfriend at Medical University in Grin-Aid-her reported dat our SVG young athletes gave of dey best, recording some good personal times and distances. Dey looked focused, participated wid energy and spirit, looking like Children of Chatoyer!. As ah doctor he was shocked dat de SVG team was widout ah Physiotherapist. We literally had to be asking other team officials to assist SVG’s athletes.

Shame SVG! Even worse he was told dat de authorities hey in SVG, chose to do construction work at de stay-dum at ah time, when our athletes should ah bin preparing foh Inter-schools Championship as well as Carifta 51. Seems like de well-fare of our future athletes is not ah priority by de ministry of Sports hey.
But, Jah-mek-her wid 4,240 sq. miles of land, population 2.8 million, continue to be de athletics powerhouse in de region copping de stellar position, bagging ah massive 84 of de 206 medals up foh grab, wid ah whopping 45 gold, 23 silver and 16 bronze. Incidentally Jah-mek- her’s 45 gold medal haul is about twice the total umber of gold medals won by de remaining 20 countries at de Games.

In second place was Bahamas 5,382 sq miles of coral and lots ah sand. Ah population of 415,223. Dey won 35 medals wid 9 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze. Dey was talk long ago dat de best surface foh athletics training is on de sand or beach. Check out de Bahamas wid nearly 700 coral islands, only 30 of them are inhabited. Maybe therein lies Bahamas’ secret dat SVG should follow, Sand! SVG 150 sq. miles, a population of 104,000 people; but No medals. Ah firmly believe better days are coming foh SVG. Maybe ‘our know it all” coaches should turn to our God given volcanic sand in de Red Zone. Also let us pay attention to our young athletes in de Grenadines-Bequia, Can-One and Union Island- train dem in dat sand. And wid dat is gone ah gone again.

One Love Bassy
