Hero is ah hero!
Kingsley “Hero” Roberts
Bassy - Love Vine
November 1, 2019

Hero is ah hero!

De 2019 Awe-wardees foh Sporting and Cultural Ambassador are all worthy of dey selection. Lie-Za’s biggest complain is dat de Awe-wards are too late in coming. Interestingly, most, if not all ah dem, have made dey contribution to de Country foh over 40 Years. Kingsley “Hero” Roberts is ah true-true Culture Man. Hero is Mr Panman, ole people would refer to him as “Chief Cook and Bottle Washer.” He knows just about everything to do wid ah Steel Band: Conductor, Arranger, one ah de best Pan Teachers, he’s not ah Tuner, but knows how to. Hero has been de Chief Instructor of de Starlift Summer Training program foh kids, ah overs he is back wid Bishop’s College Steel Orch, where he did ah lot ah work years ago.

Jomo Thomas

And den he is ah Calypsonian: Writer. Composer, Arranger, Singer and Tent Leader. Hero is de Mighty Shadow of SVG, how Eye-run-ache dat de Mighty Shadow won de Monarchy in T’n’T, but Hero wid similar style, has been trying widout success foh de last 30 years. Lie-Za feels strongly dat de only reason why Hero and Patches have not won de Monarchy is because of ah Back-ward judging system dat is killing de Kaiso Art Form in SVG. But Hero knows he is ah winner in whatever he does. Wid all his talent and skills Hero remains Humble and Patriotic..
And dey’s Ian Sardine, Principle Nursing Officer of Football Nursery in SVG. Definitely 40 Years in de coaching of Youths in de country. Like Hero, Ian is ah lover of kids, he is like ah fixture every Sat-dey at de Grammar School Playing Field and during Summer vacation, coaching de youngsters. It would be interesting to know de number of Nah-shun-all players over de years who would have had early coaching wid Ian.
Morey Millington is ah good choice. He was captain of dat fear-most 1979 Nah-shun-all Football Squad (40 Years ago) dat placed second in de CFU Championship, our highest position up to now. Morey’s main strikers were Pete Morris and de Lowe brothers Guy and Rawlty. Three Giants wid three different styles. Rawlty has de unwriiten record of scoring foh SVG in every country dat de team played, including Suriname, Mexico. Haiti, T.n.T, B’dos, Jah-mek-her, Martinique, Guadeloupe, de Windward and Leeward islands; and those ah cant remember. Dis feat along wid his coaching at all levels: Male and Fee-male Nah-shun-all teams, both seniors and juniors; would have given him de edge over de others foh Ambassador Awe-ward.
Doris Mc Intosh bin around Netball foh many years, but she played most of her Netball off de Courts. Her Organizational and Administration skills as ah Public Servant went beyond de Ministries. She was always dey wid de different Administration, When Miss B (Gloria Ballantyne) stepped down, so did Netball in SVG. Eventually Doris had to take up de mantle. Ah great challenge, but she is good foh de Renew-All of Netball in SVG.
Last but not least is Peggy Carr, SVG’s first unofficial Ambassador to Tie-One. Ah Culture Woe-man who played de Pan, Writer, Poet, Nuff is said about her Warm hospitality towards Vincy Students in Tie-One, she’s like ah house-mother… always dey, giving first hand Dos and Don’ts of de Country. Yuh could only appreciate dat if yuh were ah student in ah Far-rain land. Thank yuh Peggy.
DID JOMO SWALLOWED AH HEDGEHOG
Lie-Za say she admires Jomo foh his bravery. She wants to know what got into Jomo’s head to think dat he could swallow de Come-red and walk free. She say de Come-Red was in Par-liar-mint stating emphatically dat Jomo got he, de PM in his Craw. Her question is, how on earth could anyone Jomo size swallow any man fish or fowl de size of de Come-Red. Somehow Jomo did it, but when de Come-red felt his pull-it-to-kill Trachea (Windpipe) getting blocked, he blame Jomo foh stuffing him in his Craw. When yu see Barracuda swallow Hedge-Hog and it swell up wid dem prickles stick up in Barracuda Craw, it does run out de sea and head foh de shore. Lie-Za thinks Jomo swallow ah Hedge-Hog! He run shore! And wid dat is gone ah gone again.Awe-wards are too late in coming. Interestingly, most, if not all ah dem, have made dey contribution to de Country foh over 40 Years.
