Prime Minister Commends Public for Strong Participation and Responsible Conduct on VAT Free Day Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre has expressed sincere appreciation to the people of Saint Lucia for their overwhelming support and exemplary conduct during VAT Free Day, held on Monday, December 22, 2025.
Across the island, consumers turned out in large numbers to take advantage of the VAT relief offered by the Government, easing household expenses during the Christmas season and providing a welcome boost to local businesses. The day was marked not only by strong commercial activity, but also by patience, orderliness, and respect among shoppers, retailers, and service providers.
Prime Minister Pierre noted that the success of VAT Free Day reflects his administration’s commitment to delivering practical, people-centered policies that put real savings back into the pockets of Saint Lucians, particularly during periods of increased household spending. “The response from the public has been extremely encouraging,” the Prime Minister said. “What stood out just as much as the economic activity was the calm, respectful, and community-minded way in which Saint Lucians conducted themselves throughout the day.”
The Prime Minister also commended retailers and frontline workers for their professionalism and cooperation, which contributed to a smooth and positive shopping experience nationwide. VAT Free Day forms part of the Government’s broader strategy to support families, stimulate domestic economic activity, and ensure that growth is felt directly by ordinary citizens.
