SVGTTA to replace ‘delinquent’ executive members
PRESIDENT OF THE St Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association Orville Haslam has confirmed that his executive has only three functioning persons.
Speaking to SEARCHLIGHT last Saturday, Haslam revealed: “We have to fill the positions which are not necessarily vacant, but who have been delinquent”.
“I can name those who have been delinquent: Dennis Gaymes, Terrance Marksman and (Montgomery) Howard, who sometimes work behind the scenes,” Haslam added.
At the elections held in November 2017, Gaymes was elected as vice-president; Marksman as treasurer and Howard, a committee member.
Haslam thumbed a difference in opinion among the elected members of the executive, which may have resulted in the fall-out.
“The association is going in a particular direction and we have to have discipline and respect for the players who are playing and the parents,” Haslam commented.
The SVGTTA president also confirmed that since the election over two years ago, elected assistant–secretary Nixon Louis, rarely functioned.
Louis, at his election, had openly indicated that he was not willing to sit and work on an executive which Stanley was part of.
Haslam thus named secretary Asquith Ballah, committee member Sean Stanley and himself, as those who are carrying the work of the executive.
He noted that the SVGTTA executive has had “tremendous” support from the secretariat of the SVG National Olympic Committee.
Looking ahead, Haslam revealed: “We have identified persons to fill these positions, but at this time I rather not say, because they have committed themselves, but I would be presumptuous to call their names”.
Elections for a new executive of the SVGTTA are constitutionally due in 2021.
