Athletes reaching for TASVG standards
Ulanda Lewis last Saturday at the Sion Hill Playing Field, became the latest athlete to attain the Junior Carifta standard set by Team Athletics SVG.
Lewis, clocked 12.19 seconds in the females Under-17 100 metres, ahead of the 12.25 seconds standard, at the Carifta trials.
Lewis, on debut at the Junior Carifta Games last year in the Bahamas, reached the final of both the 100m and 200m.
Her run last Saturday, saw Lewis joining high jumpers Uroy Ryan and Verrol Sam, as others who have made the standards.
Ryan and Sam made the 1.85m minimum height.
This year’s Carifta Games take place in the Cayman Islands over the Easter weekend.
At last year’s games in the Bahamas, St Vincent and the Grenadines copped two gold medals.
Handal Roban won gold in the male 800m Under-17, while the quartet of Annecia Richards, Zita Vincent, Shaffiqua Maloney and Tamara Woodley, won gold in the females Under-20, 4 x 400m.
