Year One DASGS repeat SVGCC track and field honours

Year One Arts, Sciences and General Studies (DASGS) replayed the title of champions of the QuickCash Corp National Lotteries SVG Community College Track and Field meet, when the 2017 event came off last Friday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

Year One DASGS amassed 297 points, which was 69 points better than the second placed Year One Technical and Vocational, which had a total of 228.

Taking the third place was Year Two Technical and Vocational with 160 points.

The other competing divisions were Two DSAGS, which placed fifth with 150 points, while Teachers’ Division counted 70 and Nursing Division, 47.

Year One DASGS won both the Male and Female categories, with 157 and 120 points, respectively.

Keiffer Bailey of Year One Technical and Vocational Studies copped the award for the Female Champion of the meet, tabulating 38 points.

Bailey, in claiming the individual accolade, won both the 800m and 1,500m events and placed second in the 400m.

Bailey outpointed Shantel Williams and Darria Matthias, both of Year One Arts, Sciences and General Studies, who both finished with 28 points.

Taking the Male Individual Champion award was Raasikh John of Year Two Technical and Vocational Studies, who punched in 34 points. John took gold in the 60m, 100m and long jump events. Godwyn Roban of Year One DSAGS placed second with 29 points.

Records

During last Friday’s meet, nine new records were written.

Darria Matthias eclipsed the old 100m mark of 12.74 seconds, as she ran 12.12 seconds, while Shantel Williams’ 25.34 seconds bettered the previous 27.44 seconds in the 200m.

Also setting a new mark was Year One Arts, Sciences and General Studies’ quartet, who smashed the 4x100m relay record time of 56.46 seconds, as they ran 52.15 seconds in that event.

Another of the females’ new records came in the female 4 x 400m, achieved by Year Two Technical and Vocational, as they timed 4 minutes 53.89 seconds, leaving the previous 4 minutes 54.84 seconds, to be no more.

Meanwhile, Male Division Champion Raasikh John broke the long jump record with his leap of 6.67 metres, outlasting the 5.83 metres, which stood as the best.

Javiel Saxon broke the record in the 400m, clocking a time of 50.66 seconds, bettering the previous the 51.49 seconds.

Joel Thompson broke his own shot putt record, improving on his previous best of 10.44 metres, with a distance of 11.52 metres.

Year One DSAGS’ 45.02 seconds in the 4 x 100m erased the 46.46 seconds, which was the previous best.

And, in the 4x400m relay, Year One Technical and Vocational got to the finish line in 3 minutes 36.24 seconds, faster than the 3 minutes 41.10 seconds set then as a meet record.
