ISSAC individual divisional champions shine through

Individual champions at this year’s NLA Inter-Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships (ISSAC) distinguished themselves as standouts in their respective age categories.

When the points were finalized at the conclusion of the championships last Thursday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, the Barrouallie Secondary’s Ulanda Lewis had reeled off 40 points, to be crowned Female Junior Champion.

Lewis continued from where she left off in 2016, when as a student of the Buccament Government School, she was the Under-11 champion of the primary schools’ version of the championships.

Also registering 40 points was the Thomas Saunders Secondary’s Zamesha Myle, who collected the award for Intermediate Champion.

Meanwhile, the Girls’ High School’s Tamara Woodley, despite her elevation to the senior division, dominated that individual category, after recording 49 points. In the process, the Girls’ High School duplicated what happened last year, when Shantell Williams had bossed that division.

Woodley, who in 2016 was the Intermediate Champion, added the Victrix Ludorum’s accolade to her winnings.

Among the males, the St Martin’s Secondary held on to the Junior Division title, through the efforts of Kyle Lawrence, who put together 45 points. Lawrence also claimed the Victor Ludorum title.

The St Martin’s Secondary in 2016 won the junior title, when Tyrique Bushay attained that feat.

Winning the Intermediate individual title was the St Vincent Grammar School’s Ethan Myers, who compiled 31 points. It was a repeat of last year’s crowning, when Javon Rawlins, also of the St Vincent Grammar School, was the champion athlete.

Rawlins, though, was in winner’s circle, as his 37 points handed him the Senior Champion trophy; but that was not enough for him to be crowned Victor Ludorum, for the second straight year.
