Records submerged at Scotia Bank Swim Championships
New national records were established when the St Vincent and the Grenadines Swimming Federation staged its 2017 Scotia Bank Invitational Swim Championships at the Shrewsbury Aquatic Centre, February 10 to 12.
Among those inking their names in the books was Mya De Freitas of the Black Sands Swim Squad (BSSS), who shaved almost a half a minute off the females 11 to 12 200m backstroke.
De Freitas swam 2 minutes 54.09 seconds, to submerge Shne Joachimâs time of 3 minutes 28.59 seconds, set in 2013.
Also, Alex Joachim made history of Nikolas Sylvesterâs 200m butterfly record in the 13-14 male bracket.
Joachim clocked 2 minutes 27.33 seconds in the event, while Sylvester had created the best time then, of 2 minutes 36.57 seconds, back in 2014. Both Joachim and Sylvester are members of the BSSS.
Meanwhile, Shne Joachimâs time of 5 minutes 28.60 seconds in the females 11-12 400m freestyle, set at the OECS championships in 2013, fell by the wayside. Responsible for this reset mark was Grenadian Anaika Charles, who represented the Grenfin Swim Club.
Charlesâ new timing in the event was 5 minutes 25.91 seconds.
