Jumonne Exeter named CIAA men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year
Vincentian Jumonne Exeter, a junior at Saint Augustineâs University, Virginia, was named Central Inter-Collegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) menâs Indoor Field Athlete of the Year at the CIAA Championships at the Liberty University Indoor Track Complex.
Exeter earned the honour after an outstanding regular season. The two-time All-American won the menâs triple jump at two events â the JDL College Kick-Off Classic and the Camel City Invitational â and captured three CIAA menâs Indoor Field Athlete of the Week awards.
Exeter began his season back in December at the JD College classic, winning the triple jump event with a distance of 15.06m.He returned in January at the Liberty Kickoff, where he placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 15.40m.He followed that with a second place at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitation with a distance jump of 14.93m.Exeter, at the Camel City Invitational, had a jump of 15.00m, to win the triple jump event.
Exeterâs indoor season culminated at the CIAA Indoor Track and Field Championship, producing his best efforts in both the triple jump and long jump.Competing in the triple jump, Exeter was ahead of the field in the event with a distance of 15.64m.In the long jump, Exeter bettered his fellow competitors, returning a distance of 7.23m, to take the top spot.
Locally, Exeter represents the IT-DAT Academy, and has represented St Vincent and the Grenadines at a handful of subregional, regional and international meets.
Representing his St Augustine University, Exeter won the college division of the triple jump at last yearâs staging of the Penn Relays.
