SVGVA to replay elections for new executive
The St Vincent and the Grenadines Volleyball Association (SVGVA) will, within one monthâs time, try to stage elections to put a new executive in place for the next four years.
This, after an attempt was made last Saturday at an extraordinary general meeting held at the Girlsâ High School.
There was representation from three teams: Gremlins, Unique Touch and Police, comprising nine votes, which constituted a quorum, based on the constitutional requirement of 50 per cent, plus one of the registered teams.
There were nominations for the post of president in the persons of Gary Matthias and Suzanna-Marie Ollivierre.
With Grelims throwing its five votes in the corner of Ollivierre, she edged out Matthias, who received four votes.
There were no other nominations for positions on the executive, hence the elections were aborted, extending the life of the interim committee until new elections are held.
According to a release from the SVGVA: âA meeting of the interim committee will decide on the new date for elections within one month of the last meeting… All voting teams are asked to ensure that a representative is present at the next meeting.â
The interim committee which Ollivierre heads was put in place last July, following a vote of no confidence which was sustained against the previous executive, headed by Alana Mc Master.(RT)
