GHS, WSGS trump in schools’ volleyball opening
The 2017 Ministry of Education, National Reconciliation and Ecclesiastic Affairs Inter- Secondary Schoolsâ Volleyball Competition got going last Friday afternoon at the Girlsâ High School court.
With no formal opening ceremony planned, it was business from the get go, with the Girlsâ High School (GHS) and the West St George Secondary (WSGS) trumping.
Playing on familiar territory, the Girlsâ High School, last yearâs losing finalists outdid the West St George Secondary in Zone B of the female segment.
GHS beat their opponents in straight sets, 25-13, 25-23.
Meanwhile, WSGSâs males trounced first-time participants, the St Vincent Grammar School, also in straight order, in Zone B action.
Led by national senior team player Delshun Welcome, WSGS eased to a 25-8, 25-12 win, as the debutants felt their way in their first on court competitive appearance.
Seven teams in the male division and the same number in the females are contesting for honours.
Zone A of the male division contains defending champions Georgetown Secondary, Petit Bordel Secondary, Thomas Saunders Secondary and the Bethel High School, while the St Vincent Grammar School, the West St George Secondary and the George Stephens Senior Secondary, fit into Zone B.
Zone A of the females includes the same schools as in the males, while Zone B of the female bracket sees the WSGS, GHS and the George Stephens Senior Secondary lodged there.
Matches in the competition are slated for Tuesdays and Fridays, all at the Girlsâ High School court.
March 1 is the date listed for the finals of both divisions.(RT)
