Sion Hill Netball Tournament concludes
Yanja Young Strugglers ended the 2016 Vita Malt Sion Hill Netball Tournament on a winning note last Sunday at the Sion Hill Playing Fieldâs hard court by completing the Division One double.
Having already taken the league competition, Young Strugglers added the knockout with a 39-30 dismissal of Owia Trailblazers, as they squared off in the last of the title deciders.{{more}}
Young Strugglers led in all quarters: 9-8, 22-16, 31-22, before closing out the contest by a nine-goal margin.
Topping Young Strugglersâ tally of goals was Rose Claire Hall, who poured in 37 of her 43 tries, with Michelle Sam, making good 2 of her 7.
For Owia Trailblazers, Jessica Lavia recorded 19 of her 30 attempts and Zanelle James had 11 of her 20 converted.
Joining Young Strugglers in doing the double take was KFC Pacers, who bossed the Division Two of the tournament.
In the awards ceremony which followed last Sundayâs knockout finals, Rose Clair Hall of Yanja Young Strugglers was the top shooter in the tournament. Hall had 131 of her 154 tries successfully converted.
Adjudged the tournamentâs most disciplined player was Sion Hillâs Samantha Carrington and the most disciplined team â Ajuba Netters.
Also presented with the prizes at the ceremony were Star Girls One and Everready Future Stars, who were adjudicated as best dressed and best banner winners, when the tournament opened on October 9.
And the recipients for the individual awards for most valuable player of each of the teams were: Deborah Robinson â Everready Future Stars, Coran Mc Fee â Sydney Strikers, Shania Hoyte â Star Girls Two, Jomaria Quashie â KFC Pacers, Atiya John â Youngsters and Joleen Cato â OSCO Ball Warriors. These were the Division Two awardees.
In Division One, the awardees were Nyasha Williams â Ajuba Netters, Shannique De Shong â Yanja Young Strugglers â Princess Chapman â Sion Hill Shanice Daniel â Star Girls One and Jessica Lavia â Owia Trail Blazers.
