Owia Young Strikerz regain Greiggs Softball Cricket title
After failing to overcome the force of Top Shottaz Squady in last yearâs final of the Hairoun Brewery/Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem Greiggs Softball Cricket Compe-tition, Owia Young Strikerz returned to the pinnacle last Sunday with their third title in four years.{{more}}
Coming up against eight-time finalists Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem, it was Owia Young Strikerz who were more at home at the Greiggs Central Playing Field.
Batting first, Nar Fren Dem was stymied for 84 for 6 from their 20 overs. Topping their batting was Ceon Phillips, who posted 45.
Bowling for Owia Young Strikerz, Denson Hoyte grabbed 3 for 8 and Davidson Lavia took 2 for 21.
It then took Owia Young Strikerz 12.2 overs to reach 85 for 4 and victory by six wickets, adding the 2016 title to back-to-back wins in 2013 and 2014.
Crafting Young Strikerzâ win with the bat was Zaneel Baptiste, who stroked 26, while Kenford Collins had 2 for 26, bowling for Nar Fen Dem.
Young Strikers received $2,500, two trophies and a quantity of liquid refreshments from the Hairoun Brewery. Nar Fren Dem got a trophy and $1,500.
And, taking the third place and $1,000 were Bruce Law Chambers Inc Smashers, who beat CGM Gallagher Novice by 14 runs, in the play-off which took place prior to the Owia Young Strikerz versus Nar Fren Dem showdown.
Scores: Smashers â 124, Novice â 110.
This yearâs edition was the 14th since the inception of the competition back in 2003.(RT)
