Largo Heights take AFL First Division title
The experienced Primus Mini Mart Largo Heights team shocked favourites Ruddyâs Electrical Strike Force last Sunday at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field, to lift the First Division title of the 2016 Comsports/ KPMG/Hairoun Arnos Vale Football League (AFL).{{more}}
Largo Heightsâ four goals to nil triumph saw Nyron Bennett hitting a brace, while Nicholas âPicoâ Ollivierre and Emery âChowâ Bailey added one each.
Largo Heights, for winning the division, scooped the winnerâs trophy and $1,200, with Strike Force getting the second place trophy and $1,000.
It was a big blow for Strike Force, as they were rampant in the preliminary round and in the quarter and semi-finals, dismissing their opponents with ease.
Strike Force in the semifinals against Third World Richmond Hill United came out 4-0 winners, while Largo Heights had downed Hope International 2-1.
Richmond Hill United took the third spot and the $400 cash award, when they defeated Hope International 7-1 in the third place play-off.
The divisionâs top goal scorer was Wilran Joseph of Richmond Hill United, who netted 12 times. The corresponding top scorer in the Under-17 Division was Rahiem Westfield, who had 8 goals.
Winning the Under-17 segment was System Three; Volcanoes placed second and Pryorâs Fabricating Welding Strike Force â third.
And, Hope International won the Premier Division title in the round robin format, which saw six outfits contesting. Second was Avenues and Sion Hill â third.(RT)
