The gala function takes place this Saturday, at the Media Centre at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex, from 7 to 10 p.m.

Former Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies cricket captain Darren Ganga, who is also the executive chair of the Darren Ganga Foundation, will be the keynote speaker, and will address the theme “Cricket – More than a Recreational Sport”.

In 2014, Dr Joel Warrican spoke on topic, “Integrating Education for Cricket Development”, and last year, banker Laverne Gibson-Velox addressed “Professionalism in Sports”.

President of the SVG Cricket Association Inc Kishore Shallow told SEARCHLIGHT that such a format was being strategically groomed.

“Ever since I was given the opportunity as president in 2014, my executive has aimed to lift the standard of the annual ceremony and gradually change the mindset of our cricketers… We believe that after two years of easing the people into a standard, one that is more formal and professional, it is time for us to test our impact; so, for 2016, we are pushing the boundaries to raise the bar for ourselves (the cricket fraternity) and also for other sporting organizations in St Vincent and the Grenadines”, Shallow explained.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s gala dinner, Shallow noted that he expects it to live up to its billing and projected, “I expect Mr Ganga to stimulate and enlighten all present at the 2016 Awards Gala Dinner.”(RT)
