Maloney, a former student at the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, but who spent the last three years at the Verchilds Secondary School in St Kitts, got her accolade in the Scholar Athlete bracket.

She is the outstanding athlete at the 2016 Inter-Secondary Schools Championships in St Kitts, representing that rural-based school.

In her final year, Maloney won five events, establishing new marks in two, to become the Victrix Ludorum.

On the academic side, Maloney was also her school’s top female performer at the Caribbean Secondary Examinations Certificate (CSEC), gaining passes in 11 subjects.

Also during the 2015- 2016 academic year, Maloney represented St Vincent and the Grenadines at the Junior Carifta Games in Grenada, placing sixth in the final of the female Under-18 400m.

Additionally, Maloney gained qualification for the World Junior Championships, which were staged in Poland. However, a mix-up in travel resulted in her not competing in her pet event – the 400m.

Maloney, a resident of Richland Park, is back in St Vincent and the Grenadines, but is likely to take up an athletic scholarship in January 2017.(RT)
