Part of the package, which coincided with the 37th anniversary of SVG’s Independence, were the staging of a high octane one-eighth mile drag race on October 27, Independence Day and the action packed events at the Diamond Dirt Track on Sunday, October 30.

The local drivers and bikers were joined by participants, namely from Barbados and St Lucia, in the two days of events.

The Independence Day event utilized the road leading to the Arnos Vale Playing Field, where 20 vehicles were engaged in several races. Driving his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Gregory Boyea recorded the overall fastest time of 7.6 seconds.

Meanwhile, St Lucian Brian Evans, in his Rubis sponsored Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6, won the 8-second bracket with a time of 8.3 seconds, with Cecil Alcindor, also of St Lucia, driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, taking the 9-second bracket, by clocking 9.0 seconds.

Vincentian Brendan Williams took top spot in the 10-second bracket, by clocking 10.1 seconds, as he drove his Nissan Pulsar with the 11-second bracket won by Barbadian national Hadley Bourne, but who represented SVG. Bourne’s winning time was 11.8 seconds, which was achieved in his Subaru Forrester.

Veteran Vincentian driver Colin Sardine clocked 15.7 seconds to cop the 15-second segment. Sardine did so in his 4×4 Samurai.

In the Go-Kart category, 16-year-old Kamari King outran all his competitors, registering a time of 9.4 seconds.

When the action was transferred to the Diamond Dirt Track, local drivers dominated their St Lucian counterparts in the rally cross.

Ian Trotman took the 4WD car class with his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Trotman set the overall fastest time of 1 minute 38.4 seconds, while Shaundy St Hillaire in his Honda Civic did 1 minute 39.9 seconds to secure the top spot in the 2WD car class.

St Hillaire squared off with Omrey Mayers, in the last race of the day, but Mayers trumped, crossing the finish line just 0.2 seconds before St Hillaire.

In the newly introduced 4 x 4 jeep class, Charlie Thomas, who drove a Mitsubishi Pajero, clocked 1 minute 56.3 seconds to top that bracket.

And, bikers from the St Lucia MotoX Club and one rider from Barbados showed off their wares in the high flying action in Group A competition.

When the dust settled, it was the St Lucian trio of Wayne Quinten, Brian Leon and Olson Francois, in the first, second and third places respectively.

According to information from the Vincy Motorsports Club, a total of 75 bikes and 12 vehicles, amounting to 200 visitors, were part of the motors sports events, to be part of and to celebrate SVG’s 37th anniversary of Independence.(RT)
