New champs set for Greiggs Softball Competition

There will be a new champion when the Hairoun Brewery Sea Operations Greiggs Competition holds its finals later this month at the Greiggs Central Playing Field.{{more}}

This, after defending champions Top Shottaz Squady were ousted on a faster scoring rate by Bank of SVG All Starz when the latest round of 16 matches was completed.

In a rain affected fixture, Bank of SVG All Starz batted first and were dismissed for 75 in 17 overs. Desmond Bramble scored 19, while Kimani Thomas took 2/10 and Kenneal Skinner – 2/13.

Top Shottaz Squady were 15 for 3 in the 8th over; while at that same juncture, All Starz were 34.

Desmond Bramble had taken all three wickets, which fell for the cost of nine runs.

But while Top Shottaz Squady exited, three former winners ensured that they got another crack at the title, as Owia Young Strikers, CGM Gallagher Novice and Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem, all came away victorious in their encounters.

Owia Young Strikers pumped Warriors by 101 runs.

Batting first, Owia Young Strikers made 138 for 7 in their 15 overs, in a reduced match, with Osnet Cato making 51.

In reply, Warriors were dismantled 38 in 12.4 overs, as Allison Lavia grabbed 3/10.

Meanwhile, Novice’s win over Combine Sixerz was by a 41-run margin.

In their 20 overs, Novice managed an under-par 104 for 7. Vernardo Primus top scored with 38 not out. Davion Barnum was Combine Sixerz’ best bowler, taking 3/15.

However, Norlan Williams then grabbed 4/25 to send Combine Sixerz packing for 64 in 18 overs. Romario Grant hit an innings high 17 runs.

And, Nar Fren Dem got past Fancy after the match ended prematurely.

Nar Fren Dem, on the back of Ceon Phillips’ 55, reached 150 for 8 from their 20 overs.

Bowling for Fancy, Danroy Michael took 3/32 and Glenroy Prince 3/37.

Fancy was 41 for 5 in 7.1 overs, with Garvin Simmons making 19. It was reported that the Fancy outfit refused to continue the match, forcing officials to award Nar Fren Dem with the win.

Rod Collins had taken 2/2 and Keno Matthews 2/5, bowling for Nar Fren Dem.(RT)
