United Survivors pop OSCO Softball Women’s Cricket title

United Survivors inked their name on the first women’s 12/12 softball cricket competition, put on by the Owia Sports and Cultural Organization (OSCO), with sponsorship coming from the General Employees Co-operative Credit Union (GECCU).{{more}}

The competition was decided last Sunday at the Owia Playing Field, when United Survivors met Sandy Bay D Big Deal in the final. Batting first, Sandy Bay D Big Deal only managed 58 for 7 from their 12 overs, to which United Survivors replied with 59 for 2 in 9.1 overs.

United Survivors put their hands on the first place of $1,000 and the winner’s trophy. In taking the runner-up spot, Sandy Bay D Big Deal got the second place trophy and $500.

The third place was taken Owia Hill Top Challengers, who recorded a seven-wicket win over Bruce Law Chamber’s Greiggs Nar Fren Dem.

Scores: Nar Fren Dem – 39, all out; Owia Top Challengers – 40 for 3.

For the win, Owia Hill Top Challengers gained a trophy and $300.

Individual awards

Current SVG captain Juliana Nero of Sandy Bay D Big Deal showed her wares in the competition, by scoring the most runs – 203 and added that award to the accolade of the competition’s Most Valuable Player.

Meanwhile, Lerice Nero, also of Sandy Bay D Big Deal, took the most wickets in the competition, 17, and was compensated with a trophy.

And, Arissa Henry of Combine Strikers copped the Young Player Award, for her 10 wickets at the cost of 55 runs.
