Biabou hosts four-leg Road Relay
The Biabou community was, last Sunday, the host of a four-leg road relay.
The Digicel sponsored event took athletes through the village, with the start and finish both being at the vicinity of the Biabou Playing Field.
Specifically aimed at giving persons in that locale an opportunity to show their wares on the road, the primary schools in the area took advantage of the occasion, as they fielded in the Open Category five of the 11 teams which contested the race.{{more}}
And, special provisions were made for them, as their teams were made up of two male and two female runners.
Taking the Primary Schoolsâ segment was the team from the New Prospect Infant School, which clocked 45 minutes 40.86 seconds. The champions collected $150 for their efforts.
Placing second and third were the Biabou Methodist team #1 and team #2, respectively.
Team #1âs time was 53 minutes 24 seconds and team #2âs â 55 minutes 56.11 seconds. New Prospect Infant team #2 and Biabou Methodist team #3 were the others in that category.
Winning the secondary schoolsâ component was the St Clair Dacon Secondary, in 40 minutes 18.03 seconds. Unfortunately, that institution was the lone entrant.
That school collected $200 for the trials.
And winning the open category was IT-DAT Academy.
The quartet of Caswell Lewis, Kimani Williams, Akani Slater and Ryan John got themselves $300 for returning the fastest time of 30 minutes 25.40 seconds.
Trailing IT- DAT was Chatoyer in 31 minutes 38.47 seconds and third was X-Cel team one in a time of 33 minutes 02.72 seconds. Chatoyerâs four runners got $200 and X- Celâs â $100.
Replacing the Biabou 5k, which been a regular on Team Athletics SVGâs annual road racing calendar, organizers are hopeful that the event will be an annual event, but with greater participation, especially from teams from the Biabou community.(RT)
