When the 2016 competition got going last Sunday at the hard court at the Sion Hill Playing Field, parliamentary representative for East Kingstown Arnhim Eustace lauded the organizers for their commitment to the tasks.

“Any organization that keeps itself together and progresses over a 24-year period as an organization [is] worth having … Sion Hill is particularly blessed with persons who have the interests in these areas…, and when you have survived that long, it should not be hard to continue that discipline,” Eustace complimented them.

He was also pleased that the organizers played their part in having most of the 10 competing teams represented at the opening ceremony, which marked an improvement on previous years and especially the poor turnout at the 2015 opening.

Eustace again offered $250 each for the Most Disciplined Player and the Most Disciplined Team, when adjudicated.

Meanwhile, Kenville Franklyn, the marketing co-ordinator at the St Vincent Brewery Limited, in his remarks revealed that his company was pleased with the partnership with the Sion Hill Netball Committee, hence their continued sponsorship for the past 15 years.

Franklyn assured the committee that the company is committed to the sponsorship of the competition through its Vita Malt brand.

Franklyn noted that this will continue, even if he is not in the position of marketing co-ordinator.

He promised five cases of Vita Malt for the winning team in this year’s competition.

The 2016 competition sees 10 teams vying for title honours.

Division One outfits are Sion Hill Sports Club, Yanja Young Strugglers, Star Girls One, Owia Trail Blazers and Eveready Future Stars.

And in Division Two are Star Girls 2, OSCO Ball Warriors, G &T Enterprises Sydney Strikers, KFC Pacers and Youngsters.

Star Girls were adjudged the Best Dressed Team on parade, while Everready Future Stars won the Best Banner award. Star Girls beat Sion Hill Sports Club 33-22 in the feature match of the evening.(RT)
